Dr. Matthew BayesMatthew C. Bayes, M.D. is excited to announce his partnership with sports orthopedists Lyndon Gross, M.D., Mark Miller, M.D., Michael Milne, M.D., and George Paletta, M.D. in the formation of The Sports Medicine Institute at The Orthopedic Center of St. Louis.

Dr. Bayes is skilled in the treatment of non-operative sports medicine injuries and orthopedic conditions in patients of all ages. He takes special interest in concussion care, return to play after injury, and the treatment of acute tendon and ligament injuries. His goal is to obtain for his athletes the correct diagnosis and treatment in order to return them to the field of play in as short a time as possible. He will be happy to see same day patients to assist his referring physicians and their patients.

Dr. Bayes grew up in Des Peres and graduated from Lutheran High School South. He went on to play football at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where he graduated in 1997. In 2001 he graduated from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and began his pediatric residency training at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego. He was proud to be named chief resident of pediatrics in 2003. Following graduation in 2004 he began serving as a general pediatrician at Naval Hospital, Beaufort, South Carolina, providing medical support for the families of the United States Marine Corps basic training at Parris Island and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. He was named Chief of Pediatrics at Naval Hospital, Beaufort, South Carolina in 2007. He completed his service with the U.S. Navy in July, 2008. At that time he began pursuing a life-long interest in sports medicine through a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Saint Louis University. During his training he was assistant team physician for Saint Louis University, McKendree University, Desmet High School, Gateway Grizzlies professional baseball team, and the Saint Louis Bandits Junior A ice hockey team.

Dr. Bayes is a board certified pediatrician and fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a member of the sports medicine and fitness section of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He and his wife Jaime and children Ellie and Tyler are excited to be back in their hometown of St. Louis. His office is located at The Orthopedic Center of St. Louis in Chesterfield.
