Concussions

April 27 2011

Due to recent media attention and increasing societal awareness, concussions have come to the forefront of sport-related issues. This blog is a collection of informative links about concussions and related news.

Dr. Bayes was recently featured in an article on stltoday.com  (click here) about St. Louis Blues player David Perron and his ongoing post-concussion symptoms.

Below is a snapshot of a handout we give to concussion patients we see in the office and may be useful as an informative document which includes common signs and symptoms of concussions, do’s and don’ts when suffering from a concussion, and protocols for a safe return to daily activities and sports.

Below is a list of the 22 most common symptoms of a concussion. These make up the symptom list from the ImPACT concussion test we use in the clinic. Each column represents a seperate test  and reflects their symptoms on a 0-6 scale (0: currently not having this symptom, 6: worst). The red columns are the patient’s symptoms after taking the test. This checklist can be useful for parents monitoring their child’s concussion symptoms and progress.
